H.O.D’S Profile

Dr. Jude Terna Kur is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Information and Media Technology, School of Information and Communication Technology, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, Nigeria. He is also the Deputy Dean of the School. He had his PhD in Mass Communication in 2010 from University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

He teaches communication research, writing for traditional and digital media, multimedia journalism, and science and technology reporting for the media. His research interests are parental mediation of young people’s media use, ICTs and new media, broadcast media, peace communication, indigenous communication, and political communication. Dr. Kur has completed several researches in these areas and published the researches in peer reviewed journals. He is currently working on parental mediation of children’s video game use in slum areas of Nigeria and parental mediation of children’s use of social media.

His future research agenda include: Parental mediation of children’s video game use in cafes, parental mediation of children’s movie viewing, social relationships of children’s mobile phone use and their parents, parental mediation in media-poor homes, the use of digital media in peace communication, and challenges of parental mediation in the digital age. Dr. Kur has published more than 50 peer reviewed papers, is on the editorial board of five journals, and is expert reviewer for several academic journals. He is a member of several professional associations which include: African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), East African Communication Association (EACA), Nigerian Association for Educational Media and Technology (NAEMT), International Research and Development Institute, and International Society for Development and Sustainability.

His prior administrative responsibilities include student advising and membership of several committees at faculty and university levels at Anambra State University (2005 – 2011) and Federal University of Technology, Minna (2011 to date). To produce well informed competent professionals who are capable of imparting on information technologies and media practices nationally and globally; through developing a student-centered, intellectually stimulating and technologically advanced teaching, learning and research environment.

To serve as an intellectual centre that will produce graduates with high competencies in Information and Media Technologies that will meet contemporary market demands; as well as serve as a community resource for new ideas, partnerships and collaborative effort.
